Today, I worked on the drop down navigation for Oneroom. I still need to style it but it should not take too long

Chris reminded me I didn’t designed the blog page and single page for the WPSynergy.org theme. Abhishek, where are you in the development of the theme? I will try to design them next week so you can move forward in the development and hopefully complete the theme.

Bad news. Abhishek told me he inadvertently deleted the WPSynergy theme he was working on. He must start over. We will have to wait a little bit longer to release our first themes.

Chris, I think we need to explain somewhere how to grab files from SVN. It is way to complicated for most users to get our themes and contribute. Maybe we could write a short tutorial here or on TRAC on how to use SVN (I think the latter wold make more sense). What do you think?

    WPSynergy theme

I talked to Abhishek and he told me WPSynergy theme for the wpsynergy.org site is 50% completed. He told me he will try to finish a beta version before end of this weekend. This is good news. We will soon be ready to release our themes to the public.

    Themes in development

I am actively working on Modmat and Splendid, a new theme I came up with while I was redesigning Modmat. Below are some screenshots of the themes. Please note this is a work in progress. Feedbacks are welcome! (Click on the image to enlarge it)

    Modmat first Mockups – screenshot

    Splendid first Mockups – screenshot

    OneRoom

We will need to fix a few bugs for OneRoom before we can release it on WPSynergy.org. If someone wants to contribute to this theme, read the open tickets here.

    Pignews

Pignews is 98% completed. Chris should fix the latest bugs but feel free to help him. Open tickets

    Trac

I have cleaned up Trac a little bit and created new milestones, components and new tickets to reflect the advancements. If you are just jumping on the bandwagon, go there and pick up a component or milestone to work on. I will try to add new tickets this week so go check often.

  • Wordpress 3.0 New features

WordPress 3.0 will be released in May 2010. It comes with many new features.

    • Merge of WordPress MU + WordPress.org
    • Custom Post Types
    • Better Navigation Menus
    • New Default Theme 2010
    • Custom Background Support
    • Author Specific Templates
    • Ability to Choose Username When Installing WordPress for security reasons
    • Welcome Guide in Every Installation

    and…

    • Canonical Plugins

The idea behind Canonical plugins is interesting:
“Have you used a plugin that you loved, and the author discontinued providing support. No bug fixes, no upgrades, and the plugin initially breaks in newer versions. This is a common issue therefore with WordPress 3.0 there is a mission that Jane Wells is carrying which is to unite the plugin authors and come up with canonical plugins. Canonical plugins are developed by a community instead of one developer, so if one person steps down, the plugin does not die.” source: WPbeginner.com

Finally it is very much what we are doing with our themes. Should we use the term “canonical themes” when we refer to our themes?

    Hi everyone,

I have worked on the design of the WPSynergy theme. I will try to complete it in the next few weeks and Chris will do the markup. Here’s some screenshots:

Heh, long time, no see guys… :)

I set up the Akismet plugin on the Dev WPMU this morning…I was tired of my inbox getting flooded with moderation requests for spam comments! :)

Right now, it’s using the API key I made for my personal dev server. I can change it if need be, but that key isn’t being used anywhere else at the moment, so I figured it was safe.

I made a simple mockup for Trac:

Chris, can you implement the design? It would be nice to do the same for SVN. Here are the images you will need:

Looks good. I was wondering, would adding a background image to PigNews work well/easily? Just a simple image that tiles…

    • jeeremie 8:00 am on September 6, 2009 Permalink | Reply

at the moment, we just added an option to choose between soft grey and dark grey background. We decided the beta release will only be in red and later – after we fixed the major bugs – we plan to add different color schemes ( http://dev.wpsynergy.org/themes-in-development/pignews-magazine-theme/ ).

Page not found, but I saw the different themes on your site. They look good, I was just thinking a background (something like this…[http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/5907/wallpaperbw.jpg]…perhaps?). Obviously just an option, more curious to see how it looks than anything else.

        • jeeremie 2:54 am on September 7, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Yes, WordPress automatically put the last parenthesis in the link. It works now. Otherwise you can just click on “PigNews – Magazine Theme” in sidebar under “Active Projects”.

I see. I guess that would be possible. I will have to talk to Chris about this.

By the way, you can make your suggestion(s) directly on Trac at http://bugs.wpsynergy.org/themes/newticket if you feel like doing so.
Trac seems a bit complicated the first time you use it but it is actually straight forward.

To create a new ticket, log in with the same username and password you use for this site.

I took a screenshot of the page to help you (or anyone else) get started:

          new-ticket

We don’t want to add any new features to the v.1 Beta release as we really want to complete the theme now but you can add your suggestions for the v.1 Release Candidate as shown in the screenshot.

          • Dustin 4:26 am on September 7, 2009 Permalink | Reply

It’s not so much a feature request as it is a request to see what it looks like mocked up. I can wait though :)

            • jeeremie 5:16 am on September 7, 2009 Permalink

I see. I will keep that in mind but right now we really want to finish the theme and make it bugs free for the beta release.

              We are almost there now!

Chris made a few changes on his server and now trac.wpsynergy.org is replaced by http://bugs.wpsynergy.org/ . Update your bookmarks.

Solves my problem too. Awesome. Are svn usernames and passwords same as here? (I seem to have lost any emails I had about it)

      • mou 2:56 pm on August 11, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Trac shares usernames/passwords with this (dev) site, so as long as you’re registered here you should be able to log into trac.

SVN users/passwords are linked to this site too, but at the moment I’m manually setting who can commit each project. We don’t really want anyone to be able to commit without at least speaking to them first!

Plus too many commiters increases the chances of code conflicts, etc. I’d say, if we have 10 people all wanting to work on a theme, we should be thinking about starting a new project and assigning 5 to that. As the saying goes, too many cooks…

For anyone who doesn’t have access to commit, you can still generate a patch, open a trac ticket (if there isn’t one already) and attach it to that for us to check out – the same they do for WordPress core development.

Ah, right, I see now. I think we need to get a set of coding standards up ASAP. I’ll start writing some up now.
