Objective
Create a flexible Magazine theme with options page to give user full control the layout and appearance.
Features
This is a list of (possible) features. Feel free to add your own ideas or comments.
- By default front page should look like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/98478097@N00/3458799554/in/set-72157617074795732/
- Page Layout switcher: http://designm.ag/tutorials/jquery-display-switch/
- Lead/Featured article on front page with an option to let user select which post to show on that page from dashboard. If nothing selected it will display the latest post.
- Top stories next to Lead article.
- Latest comment under Top Stories or social/RSS buttons (Twitter, facebook…)
- jQuery Slider (carousel) to browse categories
- single.php: http://www.flickr.com/photos/98478097@N00/3458034881/in/set-72157617074795732/
- page.php: I haven’t created a design for this page but it could be something similar to single.php
- Thumbnail generator for front page or Automatic Image Resizer like the one used for the Arthemia theme.
- …
options Page:
Chris created an options page with:
- An otpion to display ad blocks in header or/and sidebar
- Change Layout width from 960px to 760px
- Advanced: link to css/js files
What I’d like to see:
- Breaking News Ticker: let user select articles to display in there or disable it completely from dashboard
- Favorite button: something similar to youtube. User can add article to his favorites if logged in and browse them on a separate page

Any updates on this? Would it be possible to get the most recent revision as a .zip file? Would save me the time of saving each file and folder from the SVN individually

With SVN you can save everything at once. You don’t need to save files individually. I will send you the ZIP archive by email anyway.
