Synjob - Job Board Theme

Objective

Make a free mini-monster wordpress themes.

Competition

Jobpress is the only Premium Job Board themes until now. I think we can do better, with more options and features.

Existing plugins: Recruitpress, Bluefur

Joobsbox: It is not a WordPress theme but we could get some ideas from this platform and even see if we can use some of the code to design our theme.

Features

This is a list of (possible) features. Feel free to add your own ideas or comments.

  • Applicant can apply for a job and upload CV. He doesn’t need to register to do so. However, if it is the first time he applies on the site, he will be asked to register at the end. If he decides to do so, his CV/cover letter will be saved on his profile to be reused at a later time.
  • Applicants can Create Profile, edit CV and Cover letter directly from the dashboard OR he can upload his CV/cover letter (in word/PDF format). CV/cover letter will appear on his Profile. Applicant can delete CV/cover letter and upload a new one.
  • Applicant profile can be consulted by recruiters
  • Recruiters/employers can post their job for $…/months
  • Recruiters/employers can modify or delete a job
  • Recruiters can upload their company logo
  • A warning message will appear for posts older than 30 days
  • Map to list jobs locations nearby. user can click on the map, zoom in/out. When user click on a point, it opens the post and jobs nearby in a radius of 100 km OR list similar jobs.

TEAM

Please, if you want to work on this theme leave a comment and I will add your name to the list:

Mockup

synjob_concepts_01

This is a rough mockup. This designed was a bit inspired by Jobpress. It doesn’t need to be that way. Color scheme and layout can be different.

Sketch submitted by Adri

“Well I had some ideas with this project. I’m not so good with Photoshop so I decided that it was best to make a quick draw and than scan the picture in…
Synjob
Well this is actually an idea that I got from “The Station” (Premium) Theme from WooThemes. (Click here to view the Demo of the theme).

The lay-out should be changed but I do think that it’s better with this. But still, it’s just an idea. It’s also not so hard to code because we can use jQuery idTabs. :)

Download PSD

you can download the source file (Photoshop CS3), and modify this mockup as you want.

Download:concept_01

Once, you modified the design, send it to jeremie { a-t } synergy {d-o-t} org and I will upload it here.

P.S. Don’t steal this design. Stealing is bad so don’t do it. This theme belongs to the Synergy Project, an opensource project.

I think we should leave the “affiliates” sidebar section to a plugin, IMHO. (I realise it’s probably just there to illustrate the space, but I wanted to mention just in case.)

Sorry, I realize i wasn’t clear enough in my post.

This is just a mockup not a finished product. I just put it here to illustrate what needs to be done, start a discussion, come up with a list of nice features for this theme, make a team and so on.

When we will be done with all the brainstorming, I (or anyone who want to design it) will improve the design and then we will code it. I guess final product will be very different from this mockup.

I’d like to know if map, as I conceive it, can be developed and integrated easily in the theme? Can we use Google Maps and tweak it to fit our needs?

I think there’s a Google Maps plugin for WP. The plugin will add Google Maps in every post so people can setup their own location, then the plugin will show what people setup.

I don’t know if I can still change something, but I would change “Applicants/Recruiters”-area. I would make some “Tabs”, I sketched something, you can find it here: http://adriaan.frihost.net/wpsynergy/synjob.html (Don’t be bothered by the site…).

You can change everything you want Adri, this is only a rough mockup. I will put your sketch on the page. Thanks for that and feel free to propose anything else.

Some nice mascots here: http://bit.ly/fO2U3 Maybe you could use that for this theme. We would add a couple a mascots and let user choose the one he likes for the options page or let him disable this feature. What do you think?

Cool! Any help is appreciated. If you have previous experience with job board theme, you can definitely help. We want to finish Pignews first and then build the theme for wpsynergy.org to showcase our themes but then we will work on Synjob. Feel free to work on it now if you have time and come up with some design concepts or ideas.
